Prompt Vault
Prompt Vault — Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
Prompt Vault is a Chrome extension that helps you save, organize, and reuse the AI prompts you write. This page explains what data the extension handles and, just as importantly, what it doesn't.
The short version
Everything Prompt Vault saves — your prompts, folders, tags, notes, and ratings — is stored locally in your own browser, using Chrome's built-in storage.local API. Prompt Vault does not have a server. It does not send your prompts, your chat content, or any other data to us, to any third party, or to any AI provider. Nothing is collected, tracked, sold, or shared.
What the extension reads, and when
- The text in a chat box, only when you act. When you click the floating "Save prompt" button on ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, use the "/" or Ctrl/Cmd+K picker to insert a saved prompt, or right-click and choose "Save selection to Prompt Vault," the extension reads or writes text in that page's chat input. This only happens in direct response to something you clicked or typed — Prompt Vault does not read page content in the background or without your action.
- What you type into the extension itself. Prompt titles, content, tags, folders, notes, and ratings you create in the popup or Library.
None of this leaves your device. It's stored in chrome.storage.local, which is sandboxed to your browser profile and not accessible to us or to the websites you visit.
What Prompt Vault does not do
- It does not collect personally identifiable information, health information, financial information, authentication credentials, or your browsing history.
- It does not use analytics, telemetry, or any remote logging.
- It does not load or execute any remote code — every script in the extension ships inside the extension package itself.
- It does not sell or transfer your data to anyone, for any reason.
Permissions, explained
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
storage | Saves your prompts, folders, and tags locally so your library persists between browser sessions. |
contextMenus | Adds the right-click "Save selection to Prompt Vault" menu item. |
| Host access to chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com | Lets the extension show the "Save prompt" button, the "/" and Ctrl/Cmd+K picker, and insert saved prompts directly into the chat input on those specific sites only. |
Your data, your control
You can view, edit, or delete anything you've saved directly in the Library at any time. Exporting your library (Library → Export JSON) gives you a plain JSON copy of everything you've stored. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data along with it.
Children's privacy
Prompt Vault is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children, because it does not collect data from anyone at all.
