Peek Zoom Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12-09-26
Peek Zoom is a browser extension that enlarges an image or video thumbnail when you hover over it or hold a key, and lets you copy or save that image. This page explains, in plain language, what information the extension stores, what — if anything — it sends elsewhere, and why.
The short version: your settings stay on your own device (or sync privately through your own Google account, the same as any browser setting). The only thing Peek Zoom ever sends off your device is your license key, and only to verify a Premium purchase. We don't collect your browsing history, the images you view, or anything that identifies you.
Information stored on your device
Peek Zoom uses Chrome's built-in storage APIs to remember your preferences. This data stays local to your browser (or syncs privately across your own signed-in Chrome browsers, the same way Chrome syncs your bookmarks) — we do not have access to it, and it is never transmitted to us or anyone else.
| What's stored | Why |
|---|---|
| Trigger method, zoom size, delay, and viewer styling | So Peek Zoom behaves the way you configured it, every time |
| Per-site enable/disable list | So the extension stays off on the sites you've turned it off for |
| Daily copy / save / zoom counters | To apply the free plan's daily limits, and reset them at midnight |
| License key and trial/subscription status | To know whether Premium features should be unlocked |
Information sent to a third party
Peek Zoom sells Premium subscriptions through Gumroad, a third-party payment and licensing platform. When you activate a license key, or periodically while a license is active, the extension asks Gumroad's own license-verification service whether that key is genuine and still valid.
Exactly what's sent:
- The license key you entered
- Peek Zoom's product ID on Gumroad (identifies our product, not you)
That's the entire request. We don't send your name, email, browsing activity, or anything about the images or sites you use Peek Zoom on.
Gumroad processes that request under its own privacy policy, since they operate the licensing and payment system independently of us: gumroad.com/privacy. We'd encourage you to review it if you'd like to understand how Gumroad itself handles data.
What Peek Zoom does not do
- We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, for any reason.
- We do not run analytics or tracking scripts, and we do not know what sites you visit.
- We do not log your keystrokes, clicks, or mouse activity — the extension only reacts to a hover, key, or click locally, in your own browser, to decide whether to show a zoom.
- We do not store or transmit the images you zoom, copy, or save. When you ask to copy or save a picture, the extension fetches that specific image directly from the site hosting it, delivers it to your clipboard or downloads folder, and does not keep a copy or send it anywhere else.
- We do not use your data to determine creditworthiness, for lending, or for any purpose unrelated to running the extension.
Permissions this extension uses
Chrome requires every extension to declare upfront what it's allowed to do. Here's what each permission Peek Zoom requests is actually for:
| Permission | What it's for |
|---|---|
storage | Saving your settings and license status locally, as described above |
activeTab | Reading the domain of the tab you have open, only so the popup can offer a "disable on this site" toggle |
alarms | Periodically re-checking an active Premium license in the background |
downloads | Saving an image to your Downloads folder when you choose to save it |
| Access to all websites | Detecting images and videos to zoom works on any site — this also lets the extension retrieve an image's actual bytes on your behalf when you copy or save it, since many sites block that from working otherwise |
Data retention and control
Your local settings and license status remain in your browser until you remove them yourself — uninstalling the extension, or clearing your browser's extension storage, deletes them completely. We do not keep a separate copy anywhere.
Requests sent to Gumroad to verify a license key are handled and retained according to Gumroad's own policy, not ours, since we do not operate that service.
Children's privacy
Peek Zoom is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If what Peek Zoom stores or sends changes in a future update, we'll update this page to reflect that. We'll update the "last updated" date above whenever a real change is made.
